ABOUT SCOUTS

Scouts are aged between 10 and a half and 14 years and can be boys or girls - the activities they get involved in are a further leap ahead from those experienced in the Cub Section with a still greater emphasis on Scouting skills and adventure. Scouts have the opportunity to camp in both 'standing' and 'lightweight' environments, do their own camp cooking, learn more canoeing skills and raft building, get a good basic knowledge of 'backwoods' skills and really get to grips with a map and compass.

Our Scout Troop meet every Wednesday during the school term-times from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at our Headquarters in Send.

ABOUT OUR SCOUT LEADERS

Our Scout Leader (SL), Mark Silcock, works with his experienced Assistant Scout Leaders (ASLs) George, Mark and Martin with new assistant Jackie learning the ropes. The Section also has a good reputation for bringing on new Young Leaders and currently has several in training. Recently, at their annual standing camp at local campsite Walton Firs the Scouts were able to experience activities such as Caving, Shooting and Crate Stacking as well as take part in some Archery and Inteligence exercises.

WHAT ARE THE SCOUTS DOING?

The Scout Section are well known locally for their success in attaining the highest level of training so that senior members of the troop have managed to gain their Chief Scout's Gold Award ... the highest award available in the Scout Section.

Recently the Troop have been focusing on the Challenge Badges with successes attaining the Outdoor, Fitness, Adventure and Community programmes. Lately individual Scouts have worked for their Entertainer and Cyclist Activity Badges.

INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR CHILD JOIN OUR SCOUT TROOP?

Places in this Section are rare but, occasionally, a space comes up so if your child hasn't managed to get into the Troop by natural progression from Cubs, and you wish to get  him / her into Scouts, please download a copy of our application form which is available here:

New members will be able to have a number of 'taster' sessions to see if they settle in before any subscriptions are due and uniforms are purchased so why not give Scouts a go?

Information on how to get uniforms and where can be found on our Contact Us page.

We sometimes have openings for volunteer adults to become Assistant Leaders in the Scout section. If you wish to find out more please e-mail our Group Scout Leader at sendscouts@hotmail.co.uk .
