1st Send (St. Mary's) Scout Group

- Woking District in the County of Surrey UK -

Welcome to our Home Page with notices about what Group events are coming up. Please see our other  pages to find out what our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are up to.

Hi, thanks for visiting the website for 1st Send (St. Mary's) Scout Group. Our Scout Group is situated in the village of Send, near Woking in Surrey UK. We have a thriving group of young people and adults based in our own headquarters on the banks of the River Wey navigation and surrounded by woodland ... both river and woods provide an ideal location for the more practical Scouting activities.

Our Group is open to both boys and girls aged between 6 and 14 years of age but please visit our other webpages for further information about our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, their particular age groups and their activities and programmes. For general information on Scouting please have a chat with one of our Leaders, myself or consult the Scout Association website .

Intersted in having your child join our Group? ... Please download a copy of our application form which is available here:

Application Form - Windows 97 (2003) onwards       Application Form - Portable Document Format (PDF)

We often have openings for volunteer adults. These can be uniformed positions, working with our young people on a regular basis, or in non-uniformed support roles which are equally as important, but do not often require the level of regular commitment needed for the hands-on Leader positions. Volunteering as an adult in Scouting can be a very rewarding experience where we provide any training needed, you provide as much time as you want and ... well, the fun just happens along the way! - If you wish to find out more please e-mail me on sendscouts@hotmail.co.uk .

You may wish to follow what's going on in the Scout Group by watching our Facebook Group .

GROUP EVENTS AND NOTICES

Sendmarsh Bonfire - 2nd November 2013

For those of you who managed to get along to the Bonfire, I hope you had a great time. Despite the exceptionally windy weather, we still managed to go ahead with our fireworks display when other local displays were unable to. This resulted in a fun, friendly evening which managed to raise approximately 2,300 towards Scout Group funds.

For all of you who helped out with this event I thank you and hope that you, too, had fun and will help out again next year.

Our bonfire event is usually on the first Saturday in November (the weekend after the Ripley Bonfire) so please put this date in your diary for 2014 ... Saturday 1st  November.

Send May Fair - Bank Holiday Monday 5th May 2014

Many people don't know that our Scout Group organises and runs the Village May Fair. This is one of our two main fundrasing events of the year and we need lots of help so we can run this great village get-together.

We are already starting to sort out some of our contributors for the fair ... the dog show, arena activities and stall holders ... but will need your help for running other stalls, providing cakes or helping set up ... please look out for e-mails from our fundraising team and put your name down for a job.

More news on this event to follow.

GIFT AID

GiftAid is very important to us ... it's FREE MONEY from the Government. All you have to do is fill out and sign a simple form for us ... it costs you nothing but it means that, as a registered charity, we can claim back the tax you have paid on that money. Last year less than half of our parents signed up to GiftAid and we were able to claim back nearly 1,300 !!!

If you haven't already done it, please print off, fill out and return this form to us as soon as possible.

STOP PRESS - Due to a change in the GiftAid legislation we can now claim back the tax on the bucket donations from our recent Sendmarsh Bonfire ... Brilliant !!!

Finally, I am pleased to announce our association with the premier canoe equipment specialist in this part of the Country - Whitewater, The Canoe Centre. Here is a link to Whitewater's site:

Whitewater are willing to offer our members a 10% discount.
